Joan Stein, a partner at Stoneman, Chandler & Miller LLP, has been with the firm since 1995. Her law degree is from Northeastern University. She is also a licensed clinical psychologist with an Ed.D. in Child Development from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Prior to joining the firm, Attorney Stein was a postgraduate fellow at the Developmental Evaluation Clinic at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Boston, a school psychologist and an adjunct faculty member at Lesley University, Wheelock College and Northeastern University. Her previous work in schools and extensive experience in psycho-educational evaluation brings expertise regarding school related issues from many different perspectives to the firm.
Attorney Stein has a general school law practice including labor and employment matters, civil rights, student discipline and special education. She also concentrates on advising school districts with regard to state and federal regulatory compliance. She represents school districts in court and administrative hearings and provides consultation to administrators and school committees across the wide spectrum of school law concerns. Attorney Stein represents numerous school districts and charter schools in Massachusetts.
Both as a psychologist and as an attorney, Dr. Stein has presented many workshops in child development, special education, sexual harassment, school discipline and school-related employment matters for parents, community groups, school administrators, school staff and attorneys.
