Mr. Bok is a partner in the law firm of Stoneman, Chandler & Miller LLP, where he represents management in employment, insurance coverage, litigation, and employee relations matters, including defending employers in employment related litigation and advising employers on methods and procedures to avoid litigation. Mr. Bok also represents municipal and regional school committees, as well as charter schools, in litigation matters involving matters of student and teacher discipline. Before joining Stoneman, Chandler & Miller, LLP in 1995, Mr. Bok worked as a litigation associate at Lane & Altman (1991-1995), and as a tax and litigation associate at Ropes and Gray (1987-1991). Mr. Bok has tried and handled the appeals of numerous cases in Massachusetts and Federal court. Mr. Bok is a member of the Massachusetts bar, as well as the bars of Vermont, the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Courts for the Districts of Massachusetts, Vermont and Colorado, the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Bok was appointed in 2005 by the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court to be one of five members of the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners. In February 2010, the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court appointed Mr. Bok to be the Chairman of the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners. Mr. Bok served in these positions until December 2016. The Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners drafts and administers two bar exams a year on Massachusetts and Federal law, to a total of approximately 3,000 law school graduates, as well as determines if these law school graduates have the requisite good character and fitness to become attorneys. For the 16 years prior to this 2005 appointment, Mr. Bok graded the essay portion of the Massachusetts bar exam.
Mr. Bok was appointed in 2017 by the Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court to be the Chairman of the Court's Bar Admissions Curriculum Committee.
Mr. Bok has also been very active in the National Conference of Bar Examiners, serving from 2006 to 2008 as a member of its Technology Committee, and from mid-2008 to the present as a member of its Education Committee.
Mr. Bok received a B.A. magna cum laude (1984) from Harvard University and a J.D. cum laude (1987) from Harvard Law School. He spent a full year while in college studying at St. Stephen’s College in Delhi, India. He also studied abroad in London and Romania. He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Vermont Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
Mr. Bok actively volunteers his time for various non-profit entities, including serving in the past as the President of the Beacon Hill Nursery School and as the lay leader of the First Church in Boston.
